Linden is a city in southeastern Union County, New Jersey with a population of 40,499. It is part of the New York Metropolitan Area, located about 13 miles southwest of Manhattan and bordering Staten Island, a borough of New York City, across the Arthur Kill. All of present-day Union County was part of the Elizabethtown Tract, which was purchased in 1664, by English colonists from the Lenape Native Americans that lived in the area of present-day Elizabeth, New Jersey.
