Speeding in a Commercial Motor Vehicle

When you are a CDL driver, traffic violations are even more serious than for normal drivers. Speeding 15mph or more over the speed limit in a CMV is considered a serious traffic offense, and depending on your driving history, can even get you suspended. This is why you should always obey any and all speed limits, and be extra cautious for lower speed postings through construction areas. Fines for traffic violations, such as speeding, are doubled for active work zones.

Head Injuries

Traumatic head injuries, such as concussions, are an injury that CDL drivers are at risk of. They can be caused by slips, falls, motor vehicle accidents, etc. and can be very serious. A concussion can negatively affect your driving ability in many ways such as, impaired memory, which may make it hard to recall directions or instructions, slowed reaction time, poor hand-eye coordination, problems judging distance and speed, etc. Below are symptoms of a concussion that you should be aware of. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms after hitting your head, please seek medical attention immediately.

  • Headache
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Confusion
  • Fatigue
  • Memory problems
  • Sensitivity to light or sounds
  • Fainting
  • Poor balance
  • Easily irritated or frustrated
