Texting While Driving
According to research conducted by the FMCSA, the odds of being involved in an accident, or coming close to being involved in an accident, are 6 times greater for commercial motor vehicle drivers who use a mobile phone while driving versus those who do not.
It is very simple to comply with the rules regarding the use of mobile phones while driving; no reaching, no holding, no dialing, no texting, no reading.
Using a hand-held mobile phone while driving a commercial motor vehicle can result in driver disqualification, as well as penalties and fines for drivers and employers. Please wait until your next stop to use your mobile phone for your safety, as well as the safety of those around you!
Dealing with the Heat
Summer is here, and so are the heat waves! Heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke are all serious illness that can result from high heat. Below are some tips on how to stay hydrated and healthy while working during the summer months.
- Drink plenty of fluids. You should drink water every 15 minutes, even if you are not thirsty.
- Eat small meals and eat more often. Avoid eating meat and protein-heavy foods during the heat of the day, and instead op for cool and raw fruits and vegetables.
- Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, light colored clothing, and a hat. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun’s rays.
- When possible, take rests in the shade and wear sunscreen. You can also splash yourself with water to help cool down.
